Experience Meru National Park, a lush and wild Kenyan gem where rivers, swamps, and dense bush meet open savannah. Known for rhinos, big cats, and the legacy of Elsa the lioness from Born Free.
Meru National Park lies east of Mount Kenya, covering 870 km² of lush and varied landscapes. Once nearly abandoned due to poaching, the park has been successfully restored and is now a thriving wildlife haven. Bisected by 13 rivers and dotted with doum palms, swampy grasslands, and termite mounds, Meru supports an impressive range of species — including the Big Five, over 300 bird species, and a large rhino sanctuary.
It was here that Joy and George Adamson released Elsa the lioness into the wild, immortalized in the book and film Born Free. Meru remains one of Kenya’s best-kept secrets, ideal for seasoned travelers seeking solitude and authenticity.
