Explore Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s oldest and largest protected area, where the Nile River explodes through a narrow gorge and abundant wildlife roams open savannahs. Ideal for game drives, boat safaris, and birdwatching.
Located in North western Uganda, Murchison Falls National Park spans 3,893 km² of savannah, riverine forest, and wetlands. Established in 1952, it is Uganda’s oldest and largest national park, bisected by the mighty Nile River as it flows toward Lake Albert.
The park’s star attraction is the Murchison Falls, where the world’s longest river is forced through a 7-metre gorge, creating a powerful, thunderous cascade. The surrounding landscapes host over 76 mammal species, including elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards, and Uganda’s largest population of crocodiles and hippos. It is also one of Uganda’s top birding destinations, with over 450 species, including the elusive shoebill stork.
