With a love for East Africa, nature and people, our safari guides constantly exceed our guests’ expectations. Of course, we are very proud of that. However, we also make sure that only the best of the best guide you through your safari experience.
We put every member of our team through a rigorous selection process where we test candidates’ local knowledge, natural expertise and professional qualifications. On top of that, we hold regular trainings to deepen their knowledge, so that they can answer each and every question you might have.
Yingying Shi
Experience in the Wild
I have over 15 years of travel experience in Africa, including more than a decade as a professional safari guide, leading travelers from around the world deep into the wilderness of East and Southern Africa. Years of first-hand fieldwork have not only given me rich experience in wildlife observation and guiding, but also a deeper understanding of the relationship between people and nature.
Favorite Safari Destination
My favorite destination is Samburu, Kenya. It is home to the rare and unique “Samburu Special Five” and is one of Africa’s top birding paradises. Compared with more popular parks, Samburu has fewer tourists and a quieter atmosphere, making it an ideal place to appreciate wildlife and nature in peace and depth.
Wildlife & Nature Expertise
I graduated from the Centre for Tourism Training and Research (CTTR) and am a registered professional safari guide with the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association (KPSGA).
With a background in wildlife studies and cross-disciplinary experience in medicine, journalism, and education, I specialize in creating immersive and in-depth safari experiences. I have also been trained as an Intermediate Nature Education Instructor in Finland. Beyond planning and guiding safari journeys across East and Southern Africa, I am also passionate about designing and leading nature education programs and nature-based healing experiences, ensuring that travel is not only about seeing, but also about connecting—with nature and with oneself.
Guiding Style & Philosophy
“Discover the World, Find Yourself” is both my personal motto and the guiding philosophy of Bobu Africa. As the founder of Bobu Africa, I believe that travel is not just about reaching a destination—it is a journey of the soul.
With our guidance and companionship, I hope guests can rediscover the beauty of the world in Africa’s wilderness:

Years of Experience in the Wild:
I have over 5 years of guiding experience, I have explored through some of East Africa’s most breathtaking landscapes, sharing the magic of the wilderness with travelers from across the globe. My journey in guiding began as a hiking guide in thick forest terrains in Kenya, I then moved onto city tours while cycling inspired by nature and has since grown into a lifelong passion for safari guiding.
Favorite Safari Destination or Park:
Without a doubt, my favorite destination is Ndutu, tucked between the southern Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. A place of raw beauty and endless drama—especially during the Great Migration when millions of wildebeest and zebra gather here to calve. The open plains come alive with newborns, predators on the hunt, and some of the most breathtaking wildlife encounters in all of Africa.
Wildlife or Nature Specialty:
Every guide has their passion, personally I specialize in history and wildlife interpretation, bringing the stories of the land, its people, and its animals to life. For me, a safari is more than just spotting wildlife—it’s about understanding the deeper connections between nature, culture, and history. Whether I’m explaining the behavior of a lion pride, the migration routes of wildebeest, or the ancient traditions of local communities, I aim to make safari both engaging and fun—a true journey of discovery.
Guiding Style or Philosophy:
My guiding style is described as warm, helpful, and service-oriented. I believe a safari should feel both adventurous and comfortable, where guests are free to enjoy the wild while knowing they are well taken care of.
Fun Fact or Hidden Talent:
When I’m not out on safari, you’ll probably find me on the sports field. I’m passionate about staying active—whether it’s football or running. Sports keep me energized, competitive in a fun way, and ready for the next adventure in the wild. Guests are often surprised at how quickly I can spot wildlife on safari—maybe it’s my athlete’s reflexes at work!
